Cranial Prosthesis

A hair prosthesis (or cranial prosthesis) is a custom-made wig specifically designed for patients who have lost their hair because of medical conditions or treatments, such as alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, trichotillomania, chemotherapy, or any other clinical disease or treatment resulting in hair loss. All Jasmine Ni’Cole Luxury Perucas can be worn as a cranial prosthesis.

Insurance Coverage

  1. Contact your health insurance provider and ask if your policy covers a “medical cranial prosthesis”(not a wig) for medical hair loss. If it is covered, ask them to explain their specific requirements and procedure to obtain payment for a medical cranial prosthesis.Note: Some insurance companies will require you to pay for your cranial prosthesis upfront and then be reimbursed.
  2. Ask your physician to write a prescription for a “medical cranial prosthesis” (not a wig) and your specific diagnosis.
  3. Complete all insurance forms and make sure they are signed by your physician. Usually, you can find the claim forms on the website of your health insurance provider.
  4. Get a “medical cranial prosthesis” receipt from your wig provider, wig store or hair replacement center.Note: Keep copies of All documentation and invoices for your records.

Beware that not all health insurance providers cover medical cranial prosthesis however, most do. The amount of reimbursement you receive will ultimately depend on your health insurance coverage.
If you are denied coverage for a medical cranial prosthesis contact the American Cancer Society you could qualify for assistance!
