Job Description

The Director of People, Talent, and Culture is responsible for owning and shaping a cutting-edge and best-in-class people, talent, and culture strategy and function that provides for an enriching employment experience for our staff.

This position will oversee all operations, programs, and initiatives across the employee lifecycle and all touchpoints in the areas of recruitment and onboarding, talent management, performance, learning and employee development, DEIA, total rewards, and employee engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership, Vision & Strategy

  • Serve as a thought partner, strategic advisor, and key resource to firm leadership and management around all HR/people issues and take ownership for shaping and building a high-impact people, talent, and culture function to support organizational goals and contribute to positive employee engagement and success.
  • Help champion and shape SBs organizational culture through effective people programs and internal communications that inspire positive experiences across the employee lifecycle.
  • Lead the effort to foster and advance a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizational culture and work environment; provide counsel to help advance the priorities and goals established by the DEI Committee.
  • Develop a talent acquisition strategy; lead recruitment efforts including managing all third-party search and staffing firm relationships to ensure the timely filing of key organizational roles with high-quality talent.
  • Oversee and manage the organization's compensation and total rewards program including related policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. Ensure that these programs are aligned with the organization's goals, budget considerations, market competition, and employee priorities.
  • Oversee and manage a robust Performance Management system. Ensure alignment with learning and employee development frameworks including individual employee development plans, career pathways, tracking learning and performance goals, and succession planning.
  • Ensure day-to-day people operations that support the entire employee lifecycle including onboarding, benefits, leave and payroll management, talent acquisition, performance management, learning, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Own SB's internship and mentorship programs. Work with firm leadership to plan, develop and implement these programs.
  • Develop a robust people analytics strategy grounded in people data and key performance metrics that track outcomes of people, talent, and culture initiatives and support executive decision-making.

People Operations

  • Ensure that HR infrastructure, systems, processes, and workflow in the areas of onboarding, benefits, payroll, leave management, and HR technologies are implemented proactively seamlessly, and successfully.
  • Ensure that all people, talent, and culture programs and functions are administered with the highest standards of employee service and quality support and are responsive to the diverse needs and priorities of leadership, managers and individual contributors.
  • Ensure that SBs employment policies and practices are updated with current best practices. Collaborate with outside counsel as needed to maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the escalation point for proactively, empathetically, and confidentially addressing all critical employee relations issues. Develop strategies and interventions to address them including guiding and coaching managers and employees.
  • Oversee the departmental budget.
  • Manage all outside vendor relationships and partners that support various aspects of the people, talent, and culture function.

  • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations and deal well with conflict

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • In-office position so must live within a commutable distance to Jackson Square, San Francisco (94111).
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Willingness to travel within the city and nationally as necessary, and work alternative work schedules and remotely as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required and SHRM certification preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of successful experience leading and directing the HR/People function.
  • Experience working in the AEC industry is strongly preferred.
  • Significant and deep knowledge across the areas of talent acquisition, talent management, performance and learning, total rewards including compensation and benefits, employee engagement, DEIA initiatives, and HR technologies.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, government compliance regulations, and best practices in HR/People operations.
